Finger frontman denounces APEC leaders

10/09/2007 5:00:00 PM.  | Steven Deare

Powderfinger singer Bernard Fanning has labelled the world leaders that attended APEC in Sydney as "f#@$wits" during one of the band's packed shows in the city.

Playing before a packed house at Sydney's Acer Arena on Saturday, Fanning took time between songs to tell the crowd how bad a week it had been in Sydney due to the APEC Summit.

Fanning described security in the city as "ugly", and went on to ridicule the Summit and its attendees, who he described as "world leader f#@$wits".

The jibe is not the first the singer and band have fired at politicians in their career.

The concert was part of the band's 'Across the Great Divide' co-headline tour with Silverchair, which promotes reconciliation with Australia's indigenous people. Prior to the show, a pre-recorded message from Fanning and Silverchair frontman Daniel Johns acknowledged the indigenous owners of the land the show was held on. The show also finished with a video promoting reconciliation.
