The Prime Minister and Treasurer Peter Costello have again taken to the campaign trail together to sell the benefits of their tax plan.
Mr Howard and Mr Costello have journeyed just across the border from Canberra to Queanbeyan in the marginal bellwether seat of Eden Monaro.
For the second straight day, the two leaders are selling their $34 billion tax plan.
Mr Howard has even taunted Labor leader Kevin Rudd about the proposal, saying it shows the Government has a plan for the nation's future and Labor should immediately endorse it.
Mr Howard denies it will push up interest rates, and has shrugged off questions about his gaffe last night on the official rate.
He says rates will always be lower under him than under Labor.
Meanwhile, the ALP denies its election campaign has been thrown into disarray by the Government's tax plans, saying they always expected a big tax cut.
Labor is under pressure to release its own tax policy, but Shadow Treasurer Wayne Swan says he wants time to examine what the Government is doing before responding.
Mr Swan has told 2GB’s Jason Morrison yesterday's announcement wasn't a big surprise.
“This government has a history of making very, very big commitments at the beginning of election campaigns,” he said.
“They’ve done it time and time again so we were expecting that there would be a big, significant announcement coming from the Government in terms of tax.”
