Parents escape charge after toddler car death

West Australian police said the parents of a Perth toddler who died after being left in a car in extreme heat - won't be charged.

The girl was apparently left accidentally in the car outside the family's home in Maddington, in the city's southeast, for about two hours on Sunday.

Her parents returned home about 3pm (WDT) before leaving again in another car without her, police said.

The couple, who have seven children, drove to Fremantle to pick up two other daughters, and when they returned, they realised their youngest child was missing.

The girl, whose name has not been released, was found, reportedly by a sibling, a short time later.

Attempts to resuscitate her were unsuccessful.

The incident has prompted fresh warnings about the dangers of leaving kids in cars during summer.

The victim was left behind in temperatures of up to 34 degrees, police are questioning the parents.

Inspector Trevor Davis from WA Police says the parents allegedly forgot their daughter was in the car when they arrived home.

“Realising the two-year-old was not in the house they searched for her and found her still in the motor vehicle," he said.

“Efforts were made to resuscitate the child by the parents. St Johns arrived and found the child decease

How could the parents "forget" their two year old? Where did they think she was? With so many dangers around for toddlers at this age, they are totally negligent and should have the full weight of the Law against them. This is so tragic and a really horrible, tragic way to die.

What a tragic way to die for a little 2 year old,but do you,Milly, know all the fact of this case and what happened ,don't damm people that have just lost a child. It would be the one of the worst things that could happen to a parent.Do U know what happened, maybe it was a misunderstanding as to where the baby was or what the circumstances are, you don't know, so don't judge

Tim, while I can see your point, this is another human being. There really is no excuse. It is not an accident. She was deliberately left behind. This is a toddler who cannot fend for herself. As parents they are 100% responsible for her welfare. I agree that they will feel awful (in fact we cannot even begin to understand how they feel). But this does not negate what happened. They must be charged, even if there is no time served (which would be preferable since they have other kids).

Had the parents been drinking? What were they doing leaving a two year old at home anyway? I think it's a shocking thing and the parents will be feeling aweful but I have no sympathy for them and believe that they should be charged with manslaughter at the very least. Consideration should also be given to removing the other children, this is a cruel thing to do and they do not deserve to be let off with a warning, They killed their daughter and that is to be their punishment?
