A new survey shows that while many Australian workers claim to be using social networking sites for work, they're not sending out the right message.
The survey, conducted by Linkme.com.au has found almost half of those registered with a social networking site log on at work, despite 20 per cent of employers objecting to the practice.
Of those, one in five admit to doing it up to two hours per week, costing companies two thousand 700 dollars per person per year on average in lost productivity.
LinkMe.com.au Ceo Campbell Sallabank says the success of social networking sites like Facebook and MySpace shows how ingrained the internet is in all aspects of our lives.
However while many social networkers would claim using these websites helps build contacts for work the survey's revealed three-quarters are uploading pictures, videos and personal information not necessarily suitable for an employer or potential employer to see.
