On a previous visit to Australia, Mischa Barton was caught out not knowing which local designer had dressed her.

Back in the country, the former OC star was keen to demonstrate her local fashion knowledge.

Barton, who is in town to present a gong at the MTV Australia Awards, told a media call for the event she didn't know what she would wear on the night, but it would be by an Australian designer.

"I don't know yet, to be perfectly honest because I just got here today," she said.

"But I've got tonnes of really cool Australian designers.

"I'm wearing Willow today, but I think I might wear a Scanlan and Theodore frock."

In 2006, while on a paid promotional visit for retail store David Jones, Barton was red-faced when she was unable to say who had designed her Scanlan and Theodore dress.

Barton will present the best movie star trophy at the awards on Saturday night.

The 22-year-old is due to fly out of the country early next week, but is hoping to extend her stay to take in some shows at Australian Fashion Week.

Barton fist visited Australia when she was 15 to shoot the Disney telefilm A Ring of Endless Light.

"I've got fond memories and I've been all the way up to Port Douglas, and Brisbane and the Gold Coast," she said.

"The people are really fun and nice and relaxed, and I think it's stunning."

She is one of several international celebrities who have jetted into the country to take part in this weekend's MTV Australia Awards.

Wyclef Jean will host the event, while Eve, Juliette and The Licks, The Veronicas, 50 Cent and The Vines will perform.

Other high profile guests will include Leona Lewis, Kim Kardashian, Brian McFadden, Rogue Traders and Ian Thorpe.
