Working families may be forced to pay a levy to prop up the Rudd Government's plans to give computers to all school students.
Funds have been set aside to pay for the laptops but most schools are not equipped with sufficient cabling and security.
Parents groups are already on the fundraising trail, fearing that they will end up propping up the Rudd Government's promised 'Education Revolution.'
Most public schools lack the infrastructure required for the technology, particularly the cabling and power outlets to run the computers promised in last year's election.
There are also claims that some parents may be forced to pay for the laptops in the form of student levies.
Federal Shadow Education Minister Tony Smith says the policy promise has turned out to be a cruel hoax.
“The money’s not there for the schools to actually use the computers, so now parents are going to be forced to either pay higher school fees or do more fundraisers or both,” Mr Smith said.
“Kevin Rudd and Julia Gillard have known about this for six months but they don’t care about these working families.”
