Today Tonight talent accused of lying in Corby case

12/05/2008 11:59:00 AM.  | Edwina Bartholomew
The credibility of a woman, who told Channel Seven's Today Tonight she saw Mercedes Corby smoking marijuana, has been questioned in court.

Heather Moore appeared on Today Tonight in December last year.

Before the interview she signed a statement saying she’d seen Mercedes Corby smoking marijuana at the Queensland property of a mutual friend.

Corby’s lawyer accused Ms Moore of never visiting the property, and making the whole thing up.

He asked her to draw a layout of the farm when she couldn’t describe some of the key features.

He also quizzed her of her $1,500 a day heroin addiction dating back 32 years.

Mercedes Corby is suing the Seven Network for defamation of the stories ran featuring her former best friend, where she was accused of being a drug dealer.

Who's the moron? Mercedes, or the people who believe the tripe put out by Today Tonight? Good to see there are high-profile lawyers who can see through the crap and are willing to take on this case.

Both! does that make it any clearer for you! - Who's paying the high profile lawyers - Mercedes? or is it no win no fee - if she wins then who pays???? think about it!

Today Tonight rates reasonably well, so I hope the viewers who believe some of it aren't morons, otherwise we have bigger problems. Besides, defamation isn't about what other people believe, it is about whether a person's reputation has been damaged. Belief in the information doesn't necessitate defamation, it could simply be topical enough to do damage to a reputation. And defamation cases keep the media on their toes.

Amy: If Today Tonight are so credible they should run the real stories on those who really are defamed and their reputations ruined and their careers and life made hell because of the corruption that exists - unfortuately people have no idea what really exists in the "real world" - which is all covered up-are we to believe that Mercedes name has been defamed and her reputation damaged when her whole family has caused the same damage to Sharpelle themselves! who are we trying to kid here!

Red Square, note I never used the word "credible" in conjunction with "Today Tonight", I just said I hoped not everyone watching the show is a moron. And there is a reason these things are legal matters, so that people like you don't impose your own bias on the situation and get all high and mighty about what constitutes as "real" defamation. And really, there aren't that many defamation cases anymore, since the Defamation Act (2006) was introduced.

Oh of course everyone's lying except the Corby's. Even the photos of them taking drugs are lying. This family really thinks they can get away with anything and must surely believe all Australians are idiots. I guess making money via drugs has become too difficult so they need alternatives.
