Incest victim Elisabeth Fritzl and her children have written a letter thanking the public for saving them from the dungeon where they had been held captive for several years.
The letter which is displayed in a shopping centre window in Amstetten, Austria has messages and pictures drawn by Ms Fritzel’s surviving children, with wish lists of their dreams for the future.
“We the collected family would like to take this opportunity to thank you for all your concern in our fate. Your sympathy helps us bare the bad times, and shows us that there are good and honourable people out there,” the letter read.
Ms Fritzl’s father, Josef has admitted to imprisoning his daughter for 24 years, and fathering her six children.
Two of the children, Stefan, 18 and Felix, five had never seen the light of day until the family was discovered three weeks ago.
Felix has scribbled in the letter that he dreams of running through fields and playing with other children.
Lisa, 16, Monika, 14, and Alexander, 12 also contributed messages of thanks, written inside drawings of their handprints surrounded by pictures of rainbows and hearts.
They wrote of their hope for their sister Kerstin, 19 who was hospitalised on April 19.
It was Kerstin’s illness which sparked suspicion surrounding 73-year-old Josef, which then brought the case to light.
Kerstin remains in hospital in an artificially-induced coma.
