Brisbane spearhead Jonathan Brown returned to his brilliant best tonight, kicking six goals in his AFL side's easy 33-point win over a disappointing Carlton at Telstra Dome.
Brown, who has been in unusually quiet early-season form as he battled niggling injury, unloaded on the hapless Blues in his side's 18.17 (125) to 12.20 (92) win.
Brown kicked 10 goals in the corresponding match last season, and was on course for that again as he booted four to halftime tonight.
Relishing quality service as midfielders Travis Johnstone, Simon Black and Luke Power gathered possessions at will, the giant Brown led a scoreboard onslaught as the Blues killed themselves with turnovers.
Brisbane set out their stall early with an eight goal first quarter, and built on that to power to a 42-point halftime lead as the Blues looked bereft of answers.
Carlton attempted to stem the bleeding early in the second half, with forward Brendan Fevola kicking the opening goal of the third term within a minute of play resuming.
But the Lions kicked the next three goals to snuff out any hope of a comeback, increasing their lead to 56 points at one stage as Brown added his fifth and sixth goals in the term.
With Brisbane having the match under complete control, the only interest in the final term was whether Brown would hit double figures - and even that excitement vanished from the game midway through a term in which he was held goal-less.
Johnstone was also outstanding for the Lions, with three goals and 31 touches.
Fevola was one of the few bright spots for the Blues with five goals - four in the second half.
Midfielders Heath Scotland and Marc Murphy were Carlton's best, with Scotland picking up 39 possessions for the match.
Brisbane now have four wins from eight games this season and have built a platform for a serious top-eight push.
The Lions have the luxury of three home matches against St Kilda, North Melbourne and Fremantle over the next three weeks.
