Eight people have been arrested at a sit-down protest at the kangaroo cull in Canberra.

Morning mist was replaced by campfire smoke at the eastern edge of the former defence site, where tent embassy members held a sit-down protest.

But twenty officers, including riot police and detectives, were called in to arrest the protestors one by one.

“Our allegation today is that these protestors have trespassed on Commonwealth land,” a spokesperson for police told reporters.

One doctor, a Victorian wildlife officer and six embassy members were arrested, including elder Isobel Coe.

The police presence was met with vocal opposition from non-Aboriginal protestors outside the boundary gates.

'Commonwealth land' is a stupid notion, ancient relic of terra nullius. It should be our land-especially Indigenous Australian land. The Mabo case proved that the notion of Commonwealth land was based on discrimination.

If the Department of Defence removed the fence and gave the kangaroos their freedom they would be culled the traditional way, by the motorists.

These ancient inhabitatants of Australia, kangaroos, share their history with our indigenous people. As original Australians, both have a right to their territories. There is so much venom and hatred for our native animals. The machinery of commercial killing of kangaroos has done an excellent job of spreading their lies and vilifying these animals. The reality is that they live in perfect harmony with their enviroment and actually help native vegetation. Their "starving" is a lie too!

Eight is not enough. (to explain to Gazza Benson, there was a television show in the early eighties called 'Eight is Enough') I understand that one sentence is not an adequate explanation for one so dim, but there it is.
