Eight people have been arrested at a sit-down protest at the kangaroo cull in Canberra.
Morning mist was replaced by campfire smoke at the eastern edge of the former defence site, where tent embassy members held a sit-down protest.
But twenty officers, including riot police and detectives, were called in to arrest the protestors one by one.
“Our allegation today is that these protestors have trespassed on Commonwealth land,” a spokesperson for police told reporters.
One doctor, a Victorian wildlife officer and six embassy members were arrested, including elder Isobel Coe.
The police presence was met with vocal opposition from non-Aboriginal protestors outside the boundary gates.
