O'Farrell says Orkopoulos sentence inadequate

21/05/2008 3:13:00 PM.  |
Meantime there are calls for the State Government to appeal against the leniency of the Orkopoulos's sentence.

Opposition Leader Barry O'Farrell says the fourteen year sentence is inadequate.

"We believe the DPP should give consideration to an appeal on four grounds.

"Firstly, the fact that Milton Orkopoulos was a minister of the crown and therefore clearly had a higher duty of care.

"Secondly, his not guilty plea, which clearly added to victims suffering.

"The lack of an apology and the lack of any contrition."

While I agree, broadly, with Ofarrel's statements, I think there is a wider issue. The complicity of the ALP in Orkopoulos' crimes has not been examined because it didn't fall into the jurisdiction of the police investigation. But an anti corruption body must be curious as to how a government minister's shortcomings could be overlooked for so long with no apparent explanation, but with a cover up. Why has the ICAC nothing to say on this issue? What extent does it involve the ALP?

It's not over yet-Okropolous has still got the right to appeal - and most probably will! Who is O'Farrell kidding here and he knows it-surely he doesn't think the Iemma govt will think the sentence lenient!Okropolous will only serve 9 years of the sentence perhaps even less should his appeal be successful!http://brokenrites.alphalink.com.au/nletter/page14.html (another example of lives destroyed and those who expose it-would it be better they didn't bother?
