A Sydney man has been charged with driving at more than 260 kilometres an hour in a car held together by cable ties.
Police were conducting radar checks at Mittagong in the NSW southern highlands last night when they spotted the white 1995 Nissan 200SX turbo.
They clocked the car at 263 km/h in a 110 km/h zone along the Hume Highway.
Upon inspection it was found the vehicle had a number of defects. The body kit was held on by cable ties, there were no back seats, the dashboard was not secured and the battery was fastened with a rag.
Police allege the 21-year-old male driver had spent the day at a race track.
He has been charged with dangerous driving and has been issued a defect notice for his car.
