Corby returns to court after winning defamation case

Mercedes Corby will return to court today after a jury found the sister of the convicted drug smuggler was defamed by Channel Seven.

A beaming Ms Corby left court, her former best friend Jodie Power however was furious, saying she was the one who told the truth.

Ms Corby took Channel Seven to court claiming she was falsely portrayed as a drug dealer, during interviews featuring Ms Power.

It took the jury just under six hours to come to its verdict late yesterday, finding the television network’s defence of truth failed on all but one of the defamatory imputations.

The parties will return to court today to address the marijuana matter.
The court is yet to set a date to decide on damages.

Ms Corby, 33, the sister of convicted Bali drug smuggler Schapelle Corby, yesterday told reporters she was happy with the verdict.

Schapelle Corby is serving 20 years in a Bali prison after being convicted of smuggling 4.1kg of cannabis into Indonesia inside a bodyboard bag in 2004.
