Pancreatic cancer can't stop Swayze

10/06/2008 3:21:00 PM.  | AAP
Actor Patrick Swayze isn't letting the little matter of pancreatic cancer interfere with his acting career.

The former star of Dirty Dancing has announced that he is taking the lead role in a new US TV police drama, The Beast, in which he plays a maverick FBI veteran who mentors a young partner even as he is under investigation by an Internal Affairs team.

"I have searched for quite a long time to find a character that is this multilayered, unpredictable and downright entertaining as well as a project this current and cutting-edged," said Swayze, 55, in a statement.

Swayze was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in March and has been undergoing treatment at Stanford University Medical Center, near San Francisco.

I'm so impressed and by Swayze. Like the inspirational Prof. Randy Pausch from Carnegie-Mellon, he isn't letting this (almost always fatal) disease destroy the time he has left. Let us pray for the happiness and fulfillment of these remarkable men.
