A Senate committee will report on Monday on a proposal to compensate the stolen generations.
Australian Democrats senator Andrew Bartlett has introduced a private members bill aimed at establishing a national fund that would make ex-gratia payments to eligible Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders.
It suggests $20,000 payments with an extra $3,000 for every year a person was in an institution.
The Senate's legal and constitutional affairs committee has examined the viability of Senator Bartlett's proposal comparing it to existing domestic and international compensation models.
The committee has also reviewed unimplemented recommendations of the 1997 Bringing Them Home report, which detailed the experiences of the stolen generations.
The committee was not able to consider, or respond to, any applications or claims for compensation.
The report is expected to be tabled in parliament later on Monday.
