Cutting-edge technology to slow speeding drivers is being trialled by the NSW Government.

100 cars will participate in the 18-month trial of the speeding technology, called Intelligent Speed Adaptation (ISA), which uses satellites and GPS-like devices.

The ISA system employs in-car technology and speed-zone maps to warn the driver to slow down if they’re doing more than the speed limit.

If the driver ignores the warning, fuel supply to the engine is decreased, forcing them under the limit.

If successful, the government says there’s no reason why all cars can’t be fitted with the devices.

“Speeding is the biggest killer on our roads – this kind of technology has the potential to help cut the road toll and save lives,” NSW Roads Minister Eric Roozendaal said.

Spin Spin Spin. Pass on the incompetence to the poor motorist for the fact that the NSW Labor Government have failed to build and maintain the road infrastructure in NSW. It is becoming a Nanny state. They spend more time on taking negatives and turning them into positives than getting along with the job. While the rest of Asia is building world class infrastructure, the NSW Labor Government if digging black holes. Another school crossing disaster in the making.

So which one of Labors mates is selling this solution. Or maybe it is another one of those RTA technicians who discovered the lite switch. Just another diversion for what they have not done. We should have world class roads in NSW, not decaying infrastructure.

Have they fixed the pacific hwy-a family of 5 was killed and nothing is said about the negligence and incompetence involved where apparently there was a quote lost that could have fixed the problem. Yet Rozendaal is testing some bullshit device instead of fixing the problem of the roadways. This road should never have collapsed where are the engineers to do more road testing.Just add Rozendaal to the rest of the fools in the system! No excuse but big brother having more access to your privacy. As taxpayers we should know who has come up with this device - no mention of company or people involved. Andy Mac you might be on the ball there.

If speed kills then why aren't autobarns banned overseas. And how many racing car drivers get killed every weekend....no many at all. Lack of skill combined with lack of concentration and excessive speed for the road conditions kills, not doing 5km/h over the limit.

Brave move. It won't be long before the device kills trial participants. I'm glad I'm not in charge of the trial. Imagine the caos as ques form behind slow vehicles on highways - or losing acceleration while overtaking...

This is a good Idea done half baked and completely wrong. The good part is the speed warning. The bad part is the interfering with driver control. To make this good it should be integrated into traffic management and SatNav (with full on screen function of todays satnav systems) tech, Ultimately giving suggested routes based on traffic congestion. At no stage should it be able to interfere with driver control.

When will this Labor Government, federal and state, stay the hell out of our lives. We don't want your nose up our butts every minute of the day. I am so sick of this. Next we'll need permission notes to take toilet breaks. And don't laugh - it's getting to that point!

Maybe some Politicians need random breath testers to tell them they have had enough so they do not abuse wait staff at dinner venues.Bloody Labor again.

This better be a late April fools day joke ! Which moron came up with this idea ? Some pen pushing poindexter with no idea of the real world beyond their office ! One big reason not to implement this is the fact that the moment the car is starved of fuel due to big brother it may be the time you need to put your foot down to avoid that B Double that is headed straight for you ! This idea is just insane. But imagine if it did come in ! No speeding revenue for the cash strapped state government !

welcome to our world of heavy transport..and before anyone goes off half cocked about it I do believe it was a good move to have trucks speed limited, the rules and regulations we have to put up with is unbelievable tho but thats life isn't it.but here's a thought,,when you get stuck behind a speed limited truck at 100..well it's a pain in the ass for both of us,cars shouldn't be able to travel more than 120 but they need that bit of extra speed to get out of trouble.lets hope they think it out

J.Howard employed the fuel tax under Fraser so as to maintain our highways and road infrastructure. So what has happened? It has gone to supporting rubbish like the gay n lesbian lobby, cwa, myriads of other useless bits and piece4s of non consequenstial crap!.If you moronic pollies topped selling off anything that made a buck you wouldn't need the fuel tax/roads fund to keep your salaries intact. Any device that can auto matoically take over a vehicle on the raod is a disaster in the making.

Perhaps these devices could be fitted to the pollies cars? If they think its so damn smart they should test it. Whilst at it they can think of a new way to fund the Govrnment too. We need to pass a law in this country mandating a requirement for our politicians to pass an IQ level of at least 10! I know I know, this would see at lleast 95 % of them gone but gee, the country would flourish!
