English Premier League bad boy Joey Barton has pleaded guilty to assaulting a former teammate, making his latest court appearance while still serving another six-month jail term.
Barton – who is currently jailed for an assault in Liverpool – admitted to a charge of assault occasioning actual bodily harm against Ousmane Dabo during training in May 2007.
Prosecutor Richard Vardon described the incident as an "explosive combination of football and violence", with another player, Georgios Samaras, saying it was the most violent act he had ever seen on a training pitch.
Barton, who joined Newcastle United from Manchester City before being jailed, will be sentenced on Tuesday.
