Five thousand people are expected to attend a rally in central Melbourne today calling on governments to act on climate change.

Greens leader Bob Brown is among the speakers who will address the Climate Emergency Rally along with 60 community groups who are supporting the event's message demanding government's get serious about climate change.

The protesters will meet in central Melbourne and then converge on Alexandra Gardens where they will form a 140 metre long message: "Climate Emergency".

"We're being contacted daily with new groups wishing to support the rally," she said.
