Young girls are more violent than ever

8/07/2008 6:36:00 AM.  | Gillian Cannon
Alcohol and social networking websites are being linked to an increase in youth crime.

An analysis of crime figures shows between 1996 and 2006, the number of violent offences committed by 10 to 19 year-olds rose by more than 5,000.

Girls are also proving to be more violent than ever, with more girls aged 10 to 14 involved in offences like homicide, sexual assaults and robbery.

The report's author claims the negative behaviour can be linked to Internet sites like Facebook and YouTube, which has transformed the way young people interact with each other.

Alcohol abuse is also being blamed for the alarming increase.
