BMW is to produce 500 electric-powered Minis for the California market to comply with new state regulations that require automakers to offer zero-emissions vehicles, the Los Angeles Times has reported.

The report said the Minis will be partially assembled alongside the normal cars in Oxford, England, minus the engine, gearbox and fuel tank.

Then they will be shipped to parent company BMW's facility in Munich to be fitted with all the necessary electric drivetrain components and batteries and be painted silver with yellow roofs.

because its too smart for our pollies, doesn't rake in a continous unnnecesary tax. It does however add to the draw of elctrical output, off whioch in our smart land is produced through the nasty method of burning coal. Oh Wait.. If KRUDD hears about it we will get it and then get a big tax hit for recharging it :)

If all major Carbon emitting Countries were to adopt the use of Electric Cars, Nuclear and alternative energy and grow more trees instead of chopping them down we would get rid of the two biggest problems facing us to day. That is the Global Warming scare and the exploding cost of Fuel. With the right International will this could all be well on its way in a couple of decades and we should not have to wait till 2050 for results - which is a year often bandied around by Politicians and Scientists.
