Manchester United have agreed to pay a club-record $57million for Tottenham striker Dimitar Berbatov as their replacement for the outgoing Cristiano Ronaldo, while Spurs have joined Arsenal and Chelsea in chasing Russian star Andrei Arshavin.
With Ronaldo set to leave European Champions League winners United for Spanish giants Real Madrid, his club is already close to securing a replacement for their leading goalscorer.
United initially offered £20million for Bulgarian forward Berbatov, before settling on a £28million (A$57.4million) price tag with Tottenham, according to England's Daily Mail.
Spurs will now chase Arshavin, who turned heads with some sensational performances for Guus Hiddink’s Russian side at the recent Euro 2008 tournament.
Reports suggest Tottenham not let Berbatov leave the club until a new signing has been secured.
