Mark Bosnich to join Central Coast Mariners?

16/07/2008 1:59:00 PM.  |
Former Socceroos goalkeeper Mark Bosnich is to begin a two-week trial with the Central Coast Mariners tomorrow.

The 36-year-old ex-Manchester United, Chelsea and Aston Villa stopper will be put through his paces with last season's A-League runners-up at Bluetongue Stadium.

Mariners executive chairman Lyall Gorman believes the gloveman's trial will prove mutually beneficial.

"Mark has not signed a contract with the Mariners, but has been invited to train with us to further his aspirations to return to top-flight football, if not with the Mariners, then with another club in Australia or abroad," Gorman said.

"By virtue of Mark's vast and impressive professional experience, his very presence at training will be inspiration for our younger players ahead of the regular season.

"We're delighted to offer one of the true trail blazers of Australian football the chance to experience the Mariners and the A-League."

Bosnich's colourful career unravelled at Chelsea in 2002 when he was sacked for failing a drugs test.

Central Coast's first-choice goalkeeper Danny Vukovic is banned until October for striking a referee.
