Cahill limps toward recovery after foot surgery

A slow recovery from a broken foot means Everton midfielder Tim Cahill will miss the start of the Premier League season.

Cahill had hoped to return for pre-season training but Everton manager David Moyes says the 28-year-old, along with striker James Vaughan, won't be back in time for the season opener against Blackburn.

"James Vaughan is coming on all the time but it is a slow process with him. It is the same for Tim Cahill and I am not expecting him to be fit for the start of the season.

"He is going over to Australia to see the specialist for a last check but it is so far, so good."

Cahill originally underwent surgery for the metatarsal injury last year but it flared up against West Ham in March.
