Hewitt's hip has Beijing hopes hanging in the balance

18/07/2008 1:07:00 PM.  |
Lleyton Hewitt is expected to soon announce his Olympic Games and US Open intentions after undergoing tests on his injured hip.

Hewitt is hoping to press ahead with plans to travel to Beijing for his second Olympic campaign after debuting as a 19-year-old at Sydney 2000.

And provided he does no further damage to his hip - which requires surgery - Australia's 2001 US Open champion is then likely to head to New York for the season's final grand slam starting on August 25.

Hewitt also has Australia's World Group Davis Cup playoff in Chile in September.

But, looking long term, Hewitt may opt for season-ending surgery with the hope of being fit for the Australian Open in January.
