Hackett smashes 800m world record

20/07/2008 2:55:00 PM.  | Dominic Brock
Grant Hackett has broken his own 800m shortcourse world record, showing the dual Olympic champion is hitting top form at the perfect time ahead of this year’s Beijing Games.

In his final Australian race before the Games, Hackett took almost two seconds off the record with a 7min 23.42sec swim at the Victorian shortcourse championships.

Hackett, Australia’s swim team captain, will leave for Singapore tonight before linking up with the rest of the team next weekend.
