Patrick Johnson's Olympic dream shattered

24/07/2008 8:45:00 AM.  | AAP
Australian sprinter Patrick Johnson has unsuccessfully appealed his non-selection for the Beijing Olympics.

Johnson lost his appeal at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) hearing in Melbourne tonight.

The Australian 100m record-holder was in Belgium and was represented at the CAS hearing by his manager, Clive Stephens, and his solicitor.

His team had appealed his non-selection in the 100m, 200m and 4x100m relay event on the basis other athletes had been chosen on a discretionary basis while Johnson had not.

Johnson finished fourth in a 100m race in Belgium on Monday in a time of 10.50m (headwind 1.2m/sec) - a time 0.22sec outside the B-qualifying time.

The 35-year-old is the only Australian to break the ten second barrier for the 100m having registering a time of 9.93 seconds back in 2003 in Japan.
