Sonny Bill Williams - what a disgraceful exhibition.
What a betrayal of the game, the club, his team and everyone who’s ever cheered - or jeered - his performance on the field.
Any chance this bloke had of being revered in rugby league circles is dead and buried. Any chance that he had of becoming the great leader of the growing number of Polynesians playing the game, is also dead and buried.
And congratulations to the wag that’s come up with the new nickname ‘Money’ Bill Williams. It’s all greed and little else.
Money Bill’s thrown away his reputation and his honour for 30 pieces of silver.
This bloke signed off on a five-year contract with the Bulldogs because he wanted to be loyal, he wanted to protect himself against his dicky knee and he wanted the five, not three.
What does this mean though? Are we going to tear up every contract, just because we don’t like it anymore? Because we’ve had a better offer?
If I did that here, I’d be in court tomorrow.
Money Bill’s so-called manager, Khoder Nasser, was his manager early yesterday, but not last night - work that out.
You wouldn’t want to be buying a house from him would you? Get your money all organised, turn up for the settlement and he’s decided to sell it to someone else… Got a better offer!
You wouldn’t want to shake hands on a deal, not without checking he hasn’t got his fingers crossed on his other hand!
This bloke’s raised gazumping to a new art form.
And some are saying, how typical is this of Gen Y. Money Bill at 22 has had everything handed to him on a plate.
Just like those at the same age - they want everything today.
Now I’m so sure this is typical of that generation, but I think it’s fair to say that there are many more kids who act this way. All for themselves and with little respect for the things that matter.
Do we have a generation just like him? They’ve had it all and they’ve got it right now - no waiting, no working.
They’ve had mobiles since before they were in long pants, bought everything they own on the never-never. And no-one’s ever told them NO!
As much as I think Money Bill should just go away and we should find another, we can’t. We’ve got to make an example of this bloke. Otherwise every sportsman in the country, will up and walk, whenever a better offer comes around.
And what about when they become adults? Sonny-Bill’s not there yet obviously, but what about mortgages, car loans, insurance policies - these are unbreakable agreements.
Life’s not that easily manipulated.
