Women more worried about climate change than men: poll

28/07/2008 10:39:00 AM.  |
A new poll shows women are more worried than men about climate change and they're more anti-coal.

The poll comissioned by Greenpeace shows 40 per cent of women think Australia's coal exports should be cut compared to 27 per cent of men.

The burning of coal to generate electricity is considered a key driver of climate change and the largest source of Australia's greenhouse gas emissions.

Greenpeace campaigner Simon Roz says it's contradictory and immoral for Prime Minister Kevin Rudd to be expanding Australia's export coal industry while talking about urgent action on climate change.

Pollution is real, global warming by carbon isn't.

It is clear that our governments are not taking climate change seriously at all. It will be used to collect more charges and taxes from the general public while our economy growth top-heavy! Agricultural industries want to be excluded from the trading scheme, and livestock industries are one of the biggest contriburers to greenhouse gas emissions. Exporting coal, and our massively high immigration program, are all high emitters and normal families will be penalise.

Viv - you are right. Rudd sees ETS as a tax opportunity (just like the alcopops). We all take climate change seriously, but many do not agree that carbon and global warming are linked as the Labor propaganda would have us believe.
