With The Dark Knight smashing box office records, and looking set to beat mega-earning Titanic, talk has already begun about the third instalment of the series.
The main question? Who will be the next villain?
Suggestions have already been made that the obvious choice would be either Catwoman or the Penguin – but director Christopher Nolan has instantly dismissed these rumours.
“In the first movie we use Ra’s Al Ghul and The Scarecrow, who had not been in the movies before, and had not been in the sixties TV show before. And there are dozens if not hundreds of other characters that fit that bill. Everyone says its gotta be the Penguin or Catwoman… well, I completely disagree,” Nolan told Totalfilm.
But despite Nolan’s refusal to include the comic relief characters, the original Catwoman, Julie Newmart, has stated that Danger star Angelina Jolie would be perfect for the role – and has suggested that Jolie has begun lobbying for the part.
“Angelina would own the part," she said.
"My industry friends tell me [she] has made inquiries about the role… I can understand how it would pique her interest.
"Catwoman is Batman’s one true love. She’s tremendously popular with women because she’s both a heroine and a villainess.”
However, despite all the speculation, no official announcement has been made for the third instalment as yet.
