Rugby league is being let down by clowns

Penrith and the NRL needs to urgently drag Frank Pritchard, by the collar if necessary, into their offices this morning and tell him to pull his head in. Then they need to get hold of whoever his manager is and warn him about impending legal action.

The NRL and the clubs need to be on the prowl big time - and getting right on top of who’s talking to who.

They need to know which players are thinking about blatantly breaking their contracts and which managers are encouraging it.

Pritchard has been stupid enough to come out in the press and say he would break his contract if he was hit with a big offer from French rugby union - just like Sonny Bill Williams.

Well, Frank Pritchard is obviously another bloke with very little moral fibre. Even talking about happily breaking a contract shows you just what sort of bloke he is.

Is this the major reason why rugby league is either struggling, or perceived to be struggling, so much this year?

Because of money grabbing so-called stars like Frank Pritchard and Sonny Bill Williams?

Or the other grubs who continually cause trouble when they’re out on the drink?

It’s no surprise to hear warnings from various player managers that players are now asking them to test their market value overseas, particularly with French rugby union.

What a surprise to hear that about some of these money-grabbing, no-responsibility footballers.

If you think I’m dirty on some of these first grade players, you're 100 percent right.

And I say it as someone who earns a living out of the sport.

I’ve seriously just about had enough. When it gets to the stage where you don’t respect those who play the sport, where does it leave you?

Probably in the same position as the tens of thousands of once passionate rugby league fans who chose to stay away from last night's game at ANZ Stadium.

Players like Steve Menzies, Nathan Hindmarsh, Danny Buderus, Alan Tongue, Petero Civoniceva and Steve Price... they still give me a tiny bit of faith.

These are good men. I’m sure there are many others like them - but there are more and more who are just greedy, and selfish and couldn’t give a toss about their club or their supporters.

As I said yesterday, surely it won’t be those clowns who bring down this great sport!

For years and years rugby league poached the best players from rugby union including Ricky Stuart, Michael O'Connor and Wally Lewis just to name the ones that immediately come to mind. As a long time union supporter I have to say that the squealing of the NRL and its players and coachers is music to the ears.

Mr Moore, I luv the game. I don’t miss my teams matches and glued to the dbl headers on Fri nite. NRL wants to stay, it needs to grow, reason why rugby league is either struggling, or perceived to be struggling. Salary cap has to go and if need be the management as well. Times are changing, adopt to it. By the way I am not a Kiwi.

Rugby League has always been about money and greed, how many of "The Greats" were bribed away from Rugby Union. This is just it's chickens coming home to roost. Let's face it, League is only "Strongish" in Australia, the rest of the world looks on it as a third rate game of no consequence.

Never heard of you Andrew Moore - did you ever play the game? You are not a league supporter at all but just another News Limited hack dragging the games name through mud selling more scandal. The game is played and respected by thousands of children and adults Australia wide so just watch your words.

Aaaah.... Tom Bomb- ba - dill, what are you on mate? This is a perfectly reasonable article, and you launch a moronic personal attack on the writer. By the way, this site is NOT owned by News Limited. Get your head out of the sand mate, its all true. Don't shoot the messenger. Then we have N.Shore gibbering on about Union players that were "poached" by League... Wally Lewis is a LEAGUE boy through and through... he grew up playing it, and only played Union at high school.
