City halls across Denmark are reporting record marriage bookings for Friday, August 8, when many couples plan to tie the knot.
The date is considered lucky as it translates into 08.08.08 while in China it symbolises luck and wealth - and was chosen as the date for the opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympics, the Jyllands-Posten newspaper said.
At Haderslev city hall in southern Jutland, the first of 28 couples were due to begin their marriage ceremony at 8am, the newspaper reported.
Last year, 12 couples married on July 7 at the city hall in Haderslev, the report said.
The city hall of Aarhus usually attracts some 10 couples on an ordinary Friday in August - but on August 8 the number has tripled.
Similar trends were reported from other city halls polled by the newspaper, and some have been forced to turn down requests from couples-to-be. However, Copenhagen city hall is not open.
