Safina cruises to back-to-back titles

Russian French Open finalist Dinara Safina has won her third title in her past six tournaments, breezing past Dominika Cibulkova 6-2 6-1 to capture the WTA Rogers Cup.

Safina, sister of former world No.1 Marat Safin, hit eight aces on the way to a win in just one hour and eight minutes.

“I was happy when I won the first match, and then I was just taking it one match at a time,” Safina told AFP.

It’s the 22-year-old’s second tournament win in a row after last week’s victory in Los Angeles.

Safina has beaten nine top-10 players in the past three months.

“It’s the first time in my life I have won tournaments back-to-back,” she said.

“Usually I would win a tournament and the next week I would lose in the first round.”
