TV presenter Anna Coren, who so often plays the judgemental wowser as host of tabloid current affairs program Today Tonight, was showing no such restraint during a recent bender at an exclusive Sydney nightspot.
Coren joined a number of her Today Tonight colleagues last Friday in the VIP area of the upmarket Crystal Bar, where trays of shots and bottles of French champagne were said to be flowing.
The party, held in the heart of Sydney’s financial district, was to celebrate the departure from the show of Coren’s boyfriend, Today Tonight producer Andrew Bourke.
While Bourke’s exit was said to have been sensitive, with strongly denied rumours that he left following the ill-fated Mercedes Corby defamation case (said to have cost the network $5 million), Coren was clearly in high spirits.
The gorgeous presenter, who was clad in a “very, very short” mini-dress, was in a flirtatious and gregarious mood, downing several rounds of shots in front of fellow patrons.
"At one stage Anna came back from the bar with more than 15 shots and as soon as they were polished off another 15 were ordered," one fellow drinker told News Limited.
"Anna even gave me a wink and said hi when I saw her at the bar. They were totally cutting loose.
"They were still partying when I left in the early hours of Saturday morning."
Away from her on-air persona, Coren is well known for being an easy-going character. The Today Tonight presenter is even friends with the infamous Chaser boys, who so often ridicule her show, even attending one of the satire troupe’s wrap parties.
It is rumoured Coren may be planning to follow her producer boyfriend in pulling the rip cord on her job with Seven.
She is said to be eyeing a jump to CNN Hong Kong - a well-worn path for Aussie TV presenters. Expats already working for the network include Stan Grant and Hugh Riminton.
