Kevin Rudd has laughed off Paul Keating's accusations that he lacks a clear message and is running at the behest of "little press secretaries".

The former Labor PM told ABC’s 7:30 Report that Mr Rudd ran a risk by not taking stronger, more decisive line – especially on superannuation, which he claims should have been raised to a 15 per cent compulsory contribution by now.

But speaking on Channel Nine this morning, the current Prime Minister seemed unaffected.

“Paul’s sometimes not an entirely happy chappy and I think you can see a bit of evidence of that last night,” he said.

“Look, you know, you just cop it on the chin and keep, sort of, wandering through.”

Despite Mr Keating’s criticism of the current government yesterday, he saved most of his vitriol for former treasurer and apparent leadership aspirant Peter Costello, who he described as a ‘nong’.

There is nothing more past than a past Prime Minister.Keating was a bad one to start with and now he thinks he knows best.My goodness what an egotist. go back to your chair paul and just rest please.I cannot understand the t.v even taking the time to put him on. Poor dear Paul Keating. Does not have a kind bone in his body. Every time he opens his mouth it's like flushing the toilet. I can understand if he was in politics but he's not. One would think he should give it away by now not for poor old paul he has to throw the last barb. Paul all I can say about you is " YOU ARE A BITTER OLD MAN"

Having seen Paul Keating with Kerry O'Brien last evening, it has reconfirmed my long held belief that men without chins are basically very unhappy and what little jaw they do display, is inevitably made from glass! Paul, please get back on the pills and go back to being the "seagull" up at Palm Beach! G9QKCJ

Get a life Paul. Can you believe he even critised Kevin Rudd? Mind your own business over Peter Costello you imbosile. He can't take it that John Howard is a million times better and more popular. Get lost and a life.

“Look, you know, you just cop it on the chin and keep, sort of, wandering through.” Sort of wandering through, hmmmmm. Out of his own mouth Mr Rudd has described himself perfectly. How many times will we hear, "you just cop it on the chin", it has become Ruds mantra. I am so relieved to know he realises himself that he is "just wandering". While he wanders we all battle to keep our heads above water. When will this Govt do something other than call for reports. Grocerywatch, waste of our money.

Look at all the special ones wanting to defend the PM. first of all I think Paul Keating, Jeff Kennett have been two of the mosr successful pollies in Australian history. whether you believe that or not makes no difference. Can anyone really say that Mr Rudd is not more worried about appearance than substance?? I don't think Keating is 100% right but he is 100% honest...

Okay, so Paul has said that Kevin doesn't have a clear message. On this I disagree. I agree that he has not stuck to one big thing, but in actual fact he is doing a number of big things, with more on the way. These big things are strong clear messages on policy: Carbon Trading, Sorry, IR rollback, Tax Reform, Computers for Schools, improving dental care. Only time will tell if in taking these big steps has enough scritiny been applied to the detail. The economy will tell in the coming years.

On Paul's comments about Pete. If Pete is a nong then lets deduce what this means. Paul said let's have a recession and high unemployment while the world economy is strong. Pete gave us low unemployment and a strong economy during two world economic slowdowns in 1997-98 and 2001-2002. So either Paul has the definition of nong wrong or its a case of a ningnong calling a genius a nong. Go on Paul run for parliament again...so we can cut you down. Vote 1 Paul for recession. Vote 1 Pete for $$$s

What a tragic Paul Keating is. I switched the 7.30 report off when they showed Kerry fluttering his eyelashes at Keating.

Keating's legacy : offering moments of humour in Parliament.Paul, if you happen to read this : lose the breathtaking delusions of grandeur and pause momentarily to consider the estimation given to you by we, the "beneficiaries" of your leadership. Mate, you offered humour in Parliament. That's it.You are now a cranky cantancerous self-appointed seer. Seeing your ageing dial (like me) yet growing bitterness serves only to add this era of your career to being yet another period of humour for us.

Nothing will change the filthy taste Paul Keating left in this country's mouth. How dare he enter the public arena and show his face. He's got a lot of nerve to think he has any credible advice to give others these days. From his despicable "Go and get a Job" barb to his scumbag gutter language in our Parliament he displayed all the hallmarks of a person unfit to lead let alone give advice to other leaders. HIS recession we had to have in our banana republic cost many people plenty. Nvr 4get

Pual Buckley and Ivor, I couldnt have said it better. The problem here is we have many commenting who are under 40 and have never experienced the pain our gen has at the hands of the Labor Govt. They whine now about 8% interest rates when Mr Banana Republic himself inflicted many of us with 19% interest rates, many of us lost our homes, business's , our life's work, while he ran off like the coward he is to his pig farm. WHO is this man to offer comment on the man he left with a 96bill deficit.

Susan: Many of the people commenting here don't remember when Howard was Treasurer and House Rates were capped at 13% BUT the problem was you couldn't get one because the banks were losing money on them. You had to get loans at over 20% unless you knew the Bank manager and when they allowed a few more funds the manager would call you. Also could you please tell me what Major Reforms the Liberal Party introduced that helped Australia to where it is today.Looking forward to your reply

Perhaps the Dapto man can elighten us as to the reforms his beloved Rudd has introduced, other than signing worthless pieces of paper, "watching things" and introducing numerous new taxes?

Posted by: Geoff Bolton, Lane Cove

Friday, 08 August 2008

Rudder is being cautious not to stuff-up his economic inheritance from Howard. Whitlam labelled his geoverment a 'Government of Reform', look how his reforms stuffed the country, and then how the voters stuffed him; most of his big reforms had to be reversed.

Susan :Please find following reforms by Labor.Still not one reply with Liberals Economic reforms;Says a lot doesn't it!!In the 1980s and early 1990s Labor Governments: * floated the Australian dollar, lifted exchange controls and introduced foreign banking competition; * cut tariffs to ensure that Australia’s companies remained internationally competitive; * slashed the high personal income and company tax rates inherited from the Fraser-Howard Government; * deregulated the financial services sector, the airlines sector and the communications industry; * created a national superannuation scheme; and * reformed workplace laws to allow enterprise bargaining.

Dapto, why don't you just point us to the ALP website that you copied that from. Certainly wasn't your own work. Plaigurism is illegal! Anyway, I'm still waiting for you to elighten us as to the reforms that your beloved Rudd has introduced, other than signing worthless pieces of paper, "watching things" and introducing numerous new taxes?

Posted by: Geoff Bolton, Lane Cove

Saturday, 09 August 2008

Mr Bolton: It's called research!5 to 6 sites were used. And it's Fact.As far as Rudd's reforms we will have to wait a while longer yet!Looks like it's going to Tax,Climate change etc.Plaigurism is illegal! Well maybe you should tell a few of your mates as the replies are pretty standard,Recession we had to have,96 billion of government debt, interest rates will always be lower under Liberal. And if that don't work out comes a blast from the past "Whitlam"

Friday, 08 August 2008

Paul:Dapto .I remember, that was after Whitlam had his attempt at Govt and was thrown out only to be replaced by Fraser who may as well have been Labor Seems you miss the point Paul, the Coalition are forever trying to clean up the mess the Labor Party leaves them. By the way Paul, I voted for Whitlam, worse thing I ever did, you should try voting for someone else to Paul, you might have a clearer view of both sides then. I voted labor for many years, until they replaced workers with academics

Posted by: susan lowe, gippsland

Friday, 08 August 2008

Susan, I agree 100%, we were all conned by Whitlam, Arthur Caldwell was the last true worker's leader and fair dinkum Australian; and I agree Fraser was in the wrong party. I too voted Labor and went to a few meetings when it was the party that cared for workers and pensioners, but then under the academic idealists it become the mongrel party, workers and pensioners have done better under the Liberal/Country Parties..

Cont: After they destroyed our manufacturing Industry, see LIMA , deregulated THE bank, and dare I say it, allowed known criminals to enter our country to stack their electorates. ELILHALY ! I agree keith, say no more . Maybe Paul Dapto would like to tell us about all the wonderful reforms the Labor party has given Australia, if you do Paul, puhhleeeessseeee dont mention medicare. Australia has been a social experiment under Labor since Whitlam, now we only have to look around to see the result

Has Keating got a book coming out or something? running low on money? he seems to be coming out of his hiding hole for some reason. someone show him where the door is please. Love the not a happy chappy ha, who uses that term. When i look at rudd lately i think geez is that man on prosac? Nice to be that smiley. and dont worry susan, each party whether labor or lib or even the old dems gave us reforms. if we didnt have them we wouldnt be where we are today.

Bin, Keating made the statements at his book launch, but he sure can whip up a row. Of course you realise the whole furore about Costello maybe getting Brengun to hand over the Lib Crown is just about promoting his book. It's all so shallow but there is always a funny side. I think Rudd handled the Keating jibe well, under the circumstances, as there is nothing for him to gain by getting into an irrelevant argument. Personally I find the term; Hung parliament quite appealling.

Oh yeah Rudd seems to handle most things well these days its getting a bit scarey, when he has a fall lets hope he doesnt fall too hard. i really hope to god that costello and abbot do not come back. abbots views were so out dated and religious based, his own personal views. as for costello, argh
