A 19-year-old Indian pilgrim, thought to have been killed in Sunday’s stampede, has woken up in a morgue just moments before doctors were to perform his post mortem.
Mange Ram, who was knocked unconscious during a stampede that killed 150 people at an Indian temple, shocked doctors when he woke up asking for water.
"When I woke up, I was in the middle of a row of bodies waiting for post mortem," Ram told the Times of India newspaper.
"They must have been surprised to see a dead man come alive like that.”
Thousands of people were climbing the mountain when an alleged landslide caused the stampede.
Victims were dumped in trucks – local doctors have admitted little checks were carried out to confirm if people were dead or alive.
One of the truck drivers told the newspaper many of the victims were breathing when they were thrown into the truck, but died on the way to the hospital.
