A record number of couples will tie the knot at the New South Wales Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages today, on the eight day of the eighth month in 2008.
Registry spokesman Greg Curry says many couples feel that getting married on a lucky date adds something special.
Between 8am and 8pm (AEST), 96 couples will visit the Sydney registry, which has extended its operating hours on the day to accommodate the many people wanting to say I Do.
It coincides with the Olympic Games opening ceremony in Beijing, beginning at 8pm Beijing time.
There are expected to be more than 350 marriages in NSW today.
