Six time Olympian James Tomkins will lead the Australians into the Opening Ceremony in Beijing tonight, after being named as our flag bearer.
AOC boss John Coates says the decision to make Tomkins flag bearer was the easiest he's ever made.
The 42-year-old rower has competed in six Olympics, winning three gold medals - he's remembered best for his role Australia's awesome foursome.
Tomkins says carrying the flag for his country is a true honour, and it'll be an incredibly proud moment.
“Not just on behalf of the athletes, but on behalf of all Australians because this team represents all of Australia and all of Australia represents this team.
“It’s the mateship and the camaraderie, the spirit of the Anzacs – that’s the sort of spirit that this team has, and that’s the sort of culture that rings home to me.”
He'll lead our team into the Birds Nest Stadium tonight in front of millions of people watching around the world.
