A British journalist has been dragged along the ground and detained after he tried to report on a pro-Tibet protest near the Birds’ Nest stadium.
According to AFP reports, uniformed police pounced on John Ray, a British ITN journalist, as soon as a group of foreign protesters unfurled their pro-Tibet banner.
The protesters were arrested instantly and Ray was dragged into a restaurant where officers held him down and stamped on his hands.
"I tried to explain to them that I was a British journalist but they would not even let me take out my identification documents, they were very rough," Ray told AFP.
An ITN cameraman said he tried to film the arrest but was unable to because police pushed him around and used umbrellas to block his view.
