Bale escapes with warning over alleged assault

14/08/2008 7:19:00 PM.  |
Batman star Christian Bale looks set to escape with a police caution over an alleged assault on his mother and sister.

The 34-year-old Welsh-born actor was arrested last month after allegedly pushing and shoving his mother and one of his three sisters in his suite at London's upmarket Dorchester Hotel the day before attending the European premiere of The Dark Knight.

But Britain's Sun tabloid reported today that crown prosecutors had recommended to police that Bale be cautioned rather than charged over the allegations.

"Bale will have to admit guilt to get a caution when he answers bail next month," the newspaper said.

"Cops can still charge him if he refuses."

The newspaper reported that the family argument erupted after the actor's mother Jenny Bale and sister Sharon Bale asked him for STG100,000 ($A213,880.87).

Bale has pleaded for privacy, describing the incident as "deeply personal" and the assault allegations as false.
