Actor researching terrorism sparks homeland security alert

27/08/2008 12:28:00 PM.  | Jesse Perez

When actor Hassam Ghancy went onto the internet to research terrorist groups, he wasn’t expecting to get a tap on the shoulder from the Department of Homeland Security.

Ghancy, who co-stars in Traitor with Ocean’s Eleven actor Don Cheadle, wanted to research his role in the new thriller – and entered ‘terrorist’ into search engines.

According to Cheadle, it wasn’t long before he was contacted by authorities.

Cheadle told WENN, "When Hassam got this part he was going online to look up terrorist organisations and trying to surf the web and find all these things, and he got an e-mail saying, 'Why are you doing this? Why are you looking into this?'

"The powers that be shut his e-mail down. So you got to be careful. You can only say so much that you're an actor doing research (sic)."
