Williams scores try on debut for Toulon

27/08/2008 1:05:00 PM.  | AAP
Sonny Bill Williams has scored a try on debut in the French Top 14 championship.

The New Zealand international, who controversially walked out of the Bulldogs NRL club last month, crossed for one of Toulon's three tries as the ambitious club - back in the top flight for the first time in two years - beat last season's Top 14 runners-up Clermont 22-16 in their opening game of the season.

Former New South Wales Waratahs coach Ewen Mckenzie has also made a memorable introduction to French rugby with Stade Francais defeating Dax 31-9.
