World No.3 Novak Djokovic struggled with a foot injury but still managed to progress to the second round of the US Open with a straight-sets win over Arnaud Clement today.

Djokovic prevailed 6-3 6-3 6-4, continuing his good form after taking a bronze medal in the Beijing Olympics.

"I played good tennis today, enough to win," Djokovic told AFP.

"Hopefully I can play even better in the next round."

The 21-year-old Serbian made the final of the tournament last year, only to lose to then-world No.1 Roger Federer.
