Manchester City are set to join Premier League big guns Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool after a lucrative takeover of the club by a wealthy Arab group.
Current owner and former Thai prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra has agreed to sell the club to United Arab Emirates-based group the Abu Dhabi United Group for Development and Investment.
And the new owners are serious about bringing the stars to City.
They’ve already had a £30 million ($A63.5 million) bid accepted for Tottenham striker Dimitar Berbatov, who has voiced his intention to join Manchester United.
Now they have reportedly had a £32.5 million ($A69 million) bid accepted for Real Madrid star Robinho.
The man in charge of the takeover, Dr Sulaiman Al-Fahim, has also made offers for Valencia’s star Spanish forward David Villa and Stuttgart star Mario Gomez.
"I am hopeful about Berbatov, but I need to speak to our colleagues in England to see what the latest is," Al-Fahim told AFP earlier today.
"We have bids in for three players. There is Berbatov, but there is also David Villa and Mario Gomez. We have bids in for Villa and Gomez and I am waiting to hear whether we have been successful with those (offers).
"Funds are available, and transfers such as these show we are serious."
Chelsea became a European powerhouse after they were purchased by Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich.
