Two alleged bank robbers arrested at gunpoint

2/09/2008 8:44:00 AM.  | Laura Tunstall
Heavily armed police have swooped at Bondi Junction in Sydney’s east, arresting two men wanted over last week's bank robbery at Newtown.

Shots were fired during last week's attempted robbery of the Bank of Queensland at Newtown.

Three men fled the scene empty-handed, police establishing Strike Force Youl to investigate a link between other bank robberies in the area.

Detectives yesterday identified a stolen vehicle in Bondi Junction, swooping at gunpoint on Spring Street, arresting two men aged 26 and 30.

They've each been charged with four counts of armed robbery and will face court today.

Police also allege they found a replica handgun inside the car.
