A Sydney court has heard Gordon Wood believes the spirit of his former girlfriend Caroline Byrne led him to her body at the bottom of the Gap.
Gordon Wood had driven his girlfriend's father and brother, Tony and Peter, to the Gap just after midnight on June 8, 1995.
He was convinced his girlfriend had killed herself at the spot just hours earlier.
A jury has heard after searching the area in the dark Wood pointed to an area at the bottom of the cliff, claiming to see legs and shoes.
Peter Byrne has told the court he couldn't see anything at all, even when Wood shone a torch towards the area.
Mr Byrne has said he had good eyesight but due to the dark night could only make out the sea splashing on boulders.
Police later found the body of Caroline Byrne at the same place at the bottom of the Gap. Gordon Wood is accused of her murder.
Mr Byrne has told the court a week after Caroline's death Wood mentioned her spirit had led to that spot.
Wood is also believed to have told Mr Byrne Caroline had visited the Gap previously after feeling depressed.
