Two men charged with the murder of a Sudanese youth have pleaded not guilty in the Melbourne Magistrates Court today.
Clinton David Rintoull, 23, and Dylan Giuseppe Sabatino, 20, pleaded not guilty to the murder of Liep Gony, 18, at Noble Park in Melbourne on September 26 last year.
However, the two pleaded guilty to a charge of damaging property to the value of $16,000 in the house where they were staying.
Magistrate Peter Couzens remanded the pair in custody until September 17 for a Supreme Court trial.
In court this morning, Rintoull's father Trevor gave evidence via video-link from Queensland.
He said that in a phone conversation he had with his son around midnight on September 26 last year Rintoull told him that he believed he had killed someone.
Mr Rintoull said his son had said to him "Dad, I think I have killed someone - they are not moving".
He also told his father "I don't want Noble Park to turn into another Bronx", Mr Rintoull told the court.
Mr Rintoull said since that night he had become very depressed and was seeing a psychologist.
"It has affected me very badly and causing me a lot of depression," Mr Rintoull said.
