Coren’s overseas future looking hazy?

4/09/2008 11:12:00 AM.  | Jesse Perez

Things are still shaky over the future of Today Tonight host Anna Coren – but with her overseas prospects looking limited, the popular host could stay in the TT chair after all.

After completing screen tests for CNN’s Hong Kong and Atlanta divisions, the rumour has emerged that Coren could only get, at best, a weekend reading shift.

This option appears to be a little underwhelming for Coren, and now seems reluctant to take the plunge.

But while the details are somewhat sketchy, Seven’s head of News Peter Meakin said he’s ready to meet Coren with an open mind.

"I am scheduled to catch up with Anna tomorrow and everything will be laid on the table - we are going to start with a clean sheet," he told News Limited.

"If she did get a job overseas and wants to leave then good luck to her, but she has not yet indicated that is what she wants to do.

"Any number of issues could be raised with regards to her contract, from terms and conditions, to job satisfaction, to pay - and when there is an announcement to be made we will make it."

One topic that might not come up in the meeting, but will certainly be on his mind, is Coren’s involvement in the Mercedes Corby defamation case – which has allegedly cost the network $5 million.
