Nationals should walk out on the Coalition: Joyce

8/09/2008 9:00:00 AM.  | AAP
Queensland National Party senator Barnaby Joyce has called for the federal Nationals to abandon the coalition.

Nationals' leader Warren Truss is reviewing the party's structure after a strong showing in Western Australia's state election on Saturday, and Senator Joyce on Monday said the West Australian model offered the best opportunity for the Nationals.

The Alan Carpenter-led Labor in WA appears unlikely to win more than 27 seats in the 59-member parliament, while the Liberals may end up with fewer than that.

The four National MPs will likely hold the balance of power and determine who will govern.

In Saturday's federal by-elections, which were not contested by Labor, an independent took the NSW seat of Lyne from The Nationals, and the Greens are giving the Liberals a run for their money in Mayo in South Australia.

"The Labor Party didn't turn up, didn't turn up, lost, and if you talk about NSW, blew up," Senator Joyce told ABC Radio.

"For the Liberal Party, good result, bad result.

"For the National Party a great result in the West, and obviously, you know, we have to be factual about it, Lyne was disaster."

When are the Nationals going to wake up to their real problem. They need to get passionate about a bush revival and live that ideal every day with all their heart and mind. Why do they exist? Do they remember? We need to stop all the B.S AND SUPPORT THE FARMERS,get the farming life to a successful position. It seems nobody wants to tell the truth about the demise of the National Party.Have we sold our sold to other interests? Where is our guts? Lets start a revival of ALL AUSTRALIAN FARMS ......

There is no doubt that being in the COALition has been a bad move by the National Party. They receive no respect from the Libs and if you look at the number of Nat seats now occupied by independents it is obvious that. The Nats have squandered there balance of power position and their constituents have been neglected by the city centric policies of the Libs. Of course, it's going to be a bit strange here in Queensland. Just change the LNP back to the National party and be rid of the Libs?

Live News, I posted this morning an entry supporting Joyce as Nationals Leader. It doesn't get posted? Why? What is going on with you guys. You give Henderson carte blanch to rave on, and a sensible entry gets buried? What's happening guys?? Is that moderation or censorship??

Same here Geoff, had 4 not posted from last night, plus someone stealing my name, and obviously without my email, gets posted. Live News you should check some others posts on here, and their numerous names...lest you be seen to be censoring.

Another classic example of poor Grammar and spelling from you Slowe. This stuff is appalling from someone who has the audacity to accuse others of mistakes in their posts.

I'd like to see Joyce as National's leader. I like this leadership speculation. Makes me feel a bit like our biased media that are ALWAYS talking about leadership speculation (of a different type). Probably won't get an airing - but worth a try Susan!

Geoff, yesterday you were calling a journalist a disgrace for writing a story about Nelson. This morning you called this news source 'pathetic' for another story on the same topic. Now you're having a hissy about possible censorship of your views. Pot, let me introduce you to kettle. And Susan, if the calibre of your posts that do get through is any guide, anything which is moderated out must be genuinely appalling.

Carrow. I stand by my comments (1) the journalist, (2) left wing censorship, (3) media bias and obsession in only reporting Nelson related leadership issues. Further, had I read over the weekend something negative about Rudd in relation to the weekends activities I would have applauded loudly. Similarly, If I'd read something positive about O'Farrell I would have seen some balance (after all it wasn't the State Libs that implodede at the weekend!). Stating an alternative position isn't a "hissy"

Far better I go back to the old decision to ignore some posters. Complete waste of valuable time reading thier hate filled commentaries on everyone else's misguided opinions, according to thier own misguided opinion. I will continue to enjoy the attention you afford me though, thank you.

He cant do any worse Geoff. Have always had time for Joyce, he at least shows conviction, and would cross the floor if he had too. Might be good for the Nats to have him lead."The Labor Party didn't turn up, didn't turn up, lost, and if you talk about NSW, blew up," Senator Joyce told ABC Radio..."For the National Party a great result in the West, and obviously, you know, we have to be factual about it, Lyne was disaster.".. He says it as he see's it, quite possibly the only one who does.

As I recall, B Joyce was also the only one who actually proposed legislation outlawing predatory pricing as practiced by Woolworths & Coles. I agree & would welcome him as Nats leader.

Watched the young Nats leader from WA on the 7:30 report tonight, Kerry believes he will have many die hard Nats against the idea of helping Labor hold power. A very bright young man, neither of them will get his help unless he secures his deal with them for his country constituants. He has also campaigned as the Independant Nat's party so he said, I guess its all down to who can give his WA country voters the best deal, in the most convincing manner.

In fairness to regional WA, they did largely miss out on the mining boom over there, thanks to the Labor government's disgraceful self serving economic policies in WA

Bolton, For once I do agree with you, in that Barnaby Joyce is the ideal leader of Nationals, anyone would have to be better then 'my ol sparring partner' Warren Truss, however, anyone that votes 'National' are usually inclined to engage in incestuous relationships with underage family members. Unfortunately Barnaby would 'still' only be a puppet of Pitt St and the Corporate croppers.

Sean the people you are referring to (National Party voters), are the backbone of this country. I would like to see you make those comments, at say the Wagga Wagga saleyards!

Mathew, whilst I dont endorse Seans comments on this topic you are wrong about farmers. It is along time since farmers were the backbone of this country .although their contribution should not be forgotten.Unfortunately many farmers have not moved with the times as most other industries have. They have had their inefficiecy propped up by the Nats to the point where it is a welfare mentality.
