A high school north of Brisbane suspected of being the site of a cancer cluster will be evacuated if investigations confirm that an abnormal incidence of cancers is linked to the school.
Queensland's education minister Rod Welford said a number of staff at Deception Bay High School had developed different cancers in the past few years, including breast and thyroid cancer.
"We will keep staff informed every step of the way," Mr Welford told ABC Radio this morning.
"Should it emerge that there is any connection between these cancer incidents and contamination of some kind at the school, immediate steps will be taken to protect all staff and students."
The state government has launched an investigation into the possibility of a cancer cluster at the school.
