An American father has gone behind his wife’s back to name their child “Sarah McCain Palin”, in order to “get the word out” about the Republican presidential campaign.
Mark Ciptak of Elizabethton, Tennessee, named his daughter after Republican presidential candidate John McCain and vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin – despite the fact he and his wife had already agreed to name their third child “Ava Grace”.
Mr Ciptak wrote the new name on his daughter’s birth certificate, much to the bemusement of his wife.
“I don’t think she believes me yet,” he told the Kingsport Times. “It’s going to take some more convincing.”
He said he decided on the name in order to “get the word out” about the McCain/Palin campaign.
“I took one for the cause,” he said.
“I can’t give a lot of financial support for the campaign. I do have a sign up in my yard, but I can do very little.”
